Thursday 09 February 2017 PAINTING 5.30 pm – free admission

The female nude as liberation and pictorial exploration, light and shade capturing the suppleness and softness of a body that dominates the scene with poses celebrating beauty and elegance. The portrait as something that “changes the colour of our skin”, to cross continents “recounting” the urge to be different from what we are: these are the avenues explored in the art of Enas Elkorashy, a young artist from Cairo. Studying at the Faculty of Fine Arts in the Egyptian capital, where she would go on to graduate, she learned the techniques of painting from life, with a focus on figurative realism that failed to satisfy her. In 2008, in search of a creative autonomy outside the rigour of the Egyptian school, she moved to Venice where, in addition to her own painting, she has worked as an exhibition and gallery curator. Her “Made in Art” gallery exhibits work by major international artists but is also a reference point for young artists from Italy and the Middle East. Since 2004, she has exhibited paintings and photographs in Egypt, Germany, France, England and Italy. Her work can be found in private collections in Italy and abroad. She lives and works in Venice.

Exhibition curated by Emanuele Horodniceanu

On display until 2 March.
